Ultimate Street Car Challenge and the Shelby CSX3170 - Nov 2009

Gary Patterson -Shelby Automobiles: Shelby assisted with this event, held the first weekend in November 2009 at Spring Mountain Motorsports park in Parhump NV. It was an invitational put on by Optima batteries and also sponsored by our partner Baer brakes. There were a lot of the best from the automakers and was especially highly attended by vintage and new Camaros from all of the tuners and some really cool high end builders. There were also others like a twin turbo supped up Bentley GT etc. Many of these cars would have involved a 6 figure investment and were really neat. No kit cars were allowed but all had to be licensed and insured etc. Major categories were for design etc., and then performance categories for 0-60-0, autocross and then laps on the 2.2 mile road course. When the tire smoke cleared all 3 of the performance categories were won by one car……..an original owner 66 427 Cobra…..CSX3170 owned by Bruce Cambern. Bruce is a great guy who has driven and raced this car it’s entire life…..good for him. He showed tail lights to everyone there. While he didn’t have the most HP (806HP) in attendance he did have the best power to weight ratio and the car was it was prepared and driven well.
I just thought you should all know that even a car that is 44 model years old, driven by a guy nearly 70 years old is more than a match for the new kids on the block on this day. Pretty cool if you ask me.
